Animal issues higher on political agenda in The Netherlands thanks to Party for the Animals
The Dutch political Party for the Animals has achieved far more for animals in the past two years than the many years before two MPs were elected for this party in November 2006. The party's rising popularity was also reflected in the recent district water board elections where they gained eight seats in the six districts that it contested, bringing the total number of elected representatives up to twenty.

Christmas killing traditions: fox hunting continues as usual
On Boxing Day, hunting traditionally takes place. Four years after the Hunting Act came into force, foxes are being killed across the country. Both hunters and hunt monitors claim nothing has changed, and that even more animals are being killed. The police look on, and show more interest in the hunt saboteurs than in arresting those who flout the law. The government must act on Early Day Motion 122 'Hunting with Dogs,' to strengthen the Act.

Labour's lost commitment to establish a Royal Commission investigating animal use
The media are only focusing on the victims of animal 'terrorists.' What really matters is the fact that animal use for research and testing is steadily increasing. After years of law-abiding peaceful protests, letter writing and other legal methods aimed at trying to influence public perception and policy, nothing much has changed. And what happened to Labour's 1997 manifesto commitment to establish a Royal Commission investigating animal use?
